AMA Board Chariman Stan SimpsonBorn: Columbus, Indiana, in 1939.

First bike: An Indian Scout dirt tracker from my dad at age 13. My first purchased bike was a 175 Bridgestone eight years later.

Motorcycling experience: I started riding at age 12 and started racing in 1957. I rode mostly dirt until late 1968, and continued to compete until 1996. I've enjoyed the ISDT more than anything else I've done on bikes.

Life experience: I am a mechanical engineer and also have an MBA. I have always worked in the technical field with mobile machinery of some type. I am now the CEO of a major defense contractor located in San Antonio, Texas.

Proudest achievement: Being able to support the United States military in the war on terrorism.

Why I ride: Riding is the best way to find good people and develop lifelong friendships. It offers the freedom to ride through the greatest country in the world with a front row seat. And it's the best family activity (other than church) that you can find!

Favorite current bike: EXC 525 KTM. It's the best all-around dirt bike to ride day after day. I love my Honda Gold Wing 1800 for touring.

Best bike ever: 1974 Ossa GP 3 set up for enduros.

AMA Member since: 1957.

Why you are an AMA Board member: It's a great opportunity to "pay back" for all my enjoyment of motorcycling for the last half century.

The biggest challenge facing motorcycling: Land closures and excessive sound.

Philosophy: The AMA is currently changing what and who they are. I hope every one of our current members will watch the transformation and tell us what we need to do to better serve our motorcycling community.
